BANGOR - James Curtis "Jim" Manship, 90, passed away on October 14, 2025, in Bangor, Maine. He was born in Calais, Maine, on April 30, 1935, the son of Earl and Alice Manship.
Jim was a graduate of Calais Memorial High School and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1974. A proud military veteran, he carried his sense of duty and honor throughout his life.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Earl, Paul, and Joe; and his sister, Dolores. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 60 years, Nancy; his loving daughter, Sheryl; and his three adored grandchildren, Edward, Annabelle, and James. He is survived by his devoted nephews and a circle of dear friends, including those who were like family at Park East Villa, with whom he shared many years of laughter, community, and connection.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jim became an active member of the Bangor community. He ran his own business for over a decade and was deeply involved in local life. He was an active member of the Hammond Street Senior Center and the Second Wind YMCA group for many years. He could often be found enjoying activities across the city - from local summer music events to the Penobscot Theatre and Gracie Theatre.
A lifelong sports fan, Jim cheered passionately for his beloved New England teams and was a familiar face at UMO Women's basketball games for many years. He and Nancy also shared a love of travel in retirement. Known for his kindness and humor, he was a friend to everyone he met and truly never met a stranger.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim's memory to the Maine Veterans' Home Bangor, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass to be held at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, 10 am, Saturday, October 18, 2025. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather beginning at 9am. The Rite of Committal at Mt Pleasant Catholic Cemetery to follow the Funeral Liturgy.
