Alton - Herbert H. Leavitt Jr., 69, known by those who loved him as "Butch" or "Herbie," passed away on December 8, 2025, with his sister, Joan, and his niece, Alyson, by his side. Butch was born on January 12, 1956, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Herbert H. Leavitt Sr. and Phyllis P. (Kief) Leavitt.
Butch attended PVI & RLE Amicus programs for 38 years and will be sadly missed by his friends and staff at the program. He participated in many Special Olympics events and even had the honor of carrying the Special Olympics Torch at the Torch Run when his sister Patti passed it to him during the run.
Butch attended Pinetree Camp for many years, too many to count. He looked forward to attending each summer. Butch made many friends at camp, and in recent years, his family had the privilege of attending with him.
Butch is survived by his father, Herbert Leavitt, Sr, of Exeter; sisters, Patricia Emery and her husband, Micheal, of Orneville Township, Deborah Leavitt of Bangor, Jean Leavitt of Winterport, and sister, Joan Leavitt and her partner, Stuart Wentworth, of Alton; his nephew, Erick Emery and his wife, Courtney and their children, Evelyn and Norra of Exeter; his niece, Kristi Kuphal and her husband, Josh and their son, Trevor of South Carolina; his nephew, Brent Hayden and his wife, Jade and their children, Antione and Donovan of Orono, his nephew, Christopher Leavitt and his girlfriend, Genevieve Corsey and their children, Gabriel, Daniel, Bella and Dylan, of Georgia, and his niece, Alyson Tarr and her fiancé, TJ Kuespert of Carmel and her children, Jordan, Cassidy, Brody and Kolby- Butch's very best friend.
He was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis, and his sister, Diane. Butch will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of having him as a part of their life. He will be remembered for his enthusiasm; he was always cheering for those around him and for his love for his family, Elvis, NASCAR, and Peanut M&M's.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Butch on December 20, 2025, from 12-4 pm at the Barrows Skidgel American Legion Post 105, 82 North Street, Newport, Maine.
