Helen W Leighton
Brewer - Helen W Leighton, 87, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born December 22, 1937, in Machias, ME to William R. Wilson & Marguerite (Lenfesty) Wilson.
She graduated from Stonington High School, Class of 1956. In her younger working years, she waitressed at Fisherman's Inn Restaurant in Winter Harbor, ME, a job she loved. In her later years, she found her true calling as a CNA. She had a special gift caring for the elderly and sick.
She had a deep faith in God and was a life-long member of the RLDS church (Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch).
Throughout her life she was very active in her community. In the early 1980's she spearheaded the first Winter Harbor Lobster Festival Parade; she proudly ran this for several years along with the Festival Beauty Pageant.
She loved sports of all kinds and was fiercely loyal to her downeast roots. She loved following her children and grandchildren at all their sporting events and nothing made her prouder than to brag about their accomplishments.
She always believed her greatest achievement in life was raising her six children. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and was so proud of each one. She taught them that faith, tradition and family created the unwavering foundation to which everything else was built.
She leaves behind six children: Luanne Chipman (Roger), Lori Ferguson (Donald), Samuel (Scott) Leighton (Ruth), Leta Leighton (Christine), Michael Leighton (Marc), and Richard Leighton (Michelle)
Sisters: Wanda Sickles (Larry), Rania Pettengill (Rodney), and a brother Gary Wilson, and predeceased by sister-in-law, Janis Wilson.
13 Grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins.
We will all miss our phone calls and her pure interest in our lives. RIP Mama, Grammy, Nanny, Aunt, Friend.
