TAVARES, FL & BREWER, ME – Gerald Carstensen, 70, passed away on December 30, 2018 at Maine Veterans’ Home Bangor, with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 14, 1948 in Bangor, the son of Roy and Vivian (Drew) Carstensen.
Gerald attended and graduated from Caribou High School in 1967 and was an avid baseball pitcher. After high school he joined in the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 where he became a combat veteran. He went on to have a career with the Brewer Water District and eventually became Superintendent, retiring after 20 years. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
Gerald is survived by his son, Jake Carstensen; brothers, Dana, and Roy, Jr.; sister, Cathy Hatch; and grandchildren, Cody, Mindy, Stephanie, and Isaac. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his daughter, Tracy Bogan.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit, 4-6 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Brookings-Smith Brewer Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Spring burial will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Those who wish to remember Gerald in a special way may make donations in his memory to Maine Veteran’s Home Activity Fund, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor.
