STONEHAM, MA AND BANGOR, ME - George Richard "Dick" Trenholm passed away early in the morning of January 11, 2026 at Winterberry Heights Senior Living, in Bangor Maine. He was born on October 17, 1931 in Everett, MA, the second son of David Lyle and Irene (Auld) Trenholm. At the age of 5 months, Richard moved with his family to Stoneham, MA, where he grew up, attended schools, and lived with his wife, Jane, for 57 years.

Richard "Dick" graduated from Stoneham High School in 1949, and was attending the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1952 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged from active duty in 1956 and the reserves in 1960. During this time, he met the love of his life, Jane Cousineau, from Danvers, MA. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage, and one daughter, Kathryn Jane.  In 2018 Dick and Jane moved to Bangor, ME, to be closer to their daughter and her family, and made new friends at Boyd Place. At Boyd Place, he became a founding member of "The Cribbers." He was especially proud when he could beat the director of Boyd Place, Sheldon Brett.

Dick never forgot his hometown with all the familiar places and people. During his years in Stoneham, Dick was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he sang in various choirs from the age of 5; American Legion Post #115; Stoneham Historical Society; St. Patrick Food Group for over 25 years; active member of the Stoneham Senior Center where he was "The Breadman" for many years; and a blood and platelet donor at the American Red Cross in Peabody, MA: 99 blood donations and 221 platelet donations. In Stoneham, Dick volunteered by helping drive countless numbers of people to the Senior Center, doctor's appointments and other places. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee in Lincoln, MA, before retirement in 1996.

Music was an essential aspect of Dick's life, and he was known to break into song at every available moment. The memory of Dick's beautiful voice lifted in song to the Lord will remain in the minds and hearts of all who heard him sing. He had a song for everything, with his special favorite being "Without a Song."  After retirement, he and Jane traveled extensively across the United States and Canada, and participated in countless Trenholm family reunions in New Brunswick and British Columbia, and attended over 20 of the USS William M. Wood (DD/DDR715) reunions up and down the East coast. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors.

Dick is survived by his faithful wife, Jane, of Bangor; devoted daughter, Kathryn and her husband Rudolph Shorette of Bradley, ME; beloved grandson, Daniel Shorette, his wife, Abigail, and cherished great granddaughter, Holly, all of Westbrook, ME; his brother-in-law, William Comeau, of Chardon, OH; and several nieces and nephews in OH, CT, CO, and NH. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David L. Trenholm, Jr. his wife, Anne, and their daughters, Marsha Painter, and Brenda Gagne, all of Nashua, NH; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Comeau, of Chardon, OH.
