Geneva M (Aucoin) Ainaire


Geneva M. (Aucoin) Ainaire, 99, of Bangor died peacefully on Dec. 20th of natural causes after a short decline. She was born to James and Elizabeth (White) Aucoin on October 26, 1926 in Greenville Maine. She graduated from Greenville HS and pursued her dream of being a nurse at Eastern Maine General Hospital, graduating in 1947. In 1948 she married Dennis W Ainaire and together they raised six children in Bangor. Geneva was a strong Catholic and her faith sustained her for her whole life.

As a child, Geneva loved swimming at Red Cross Beach in Greenville, Maine, spending

time with her family,and playing basketball in high school.

As an adult, she spent many hours watching daily Mass and the Rosary. She loved

watching the Celtics, women's basketball and figure skating. She volunteered for many

fundraisers over the years at St. John's Church where she was an active member for

her adult life. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, especially her peonies, bargain shopping; knitting hats, mittens and afghans; sewing; square dancing; baking; hosting holiday meals for family, attending the annual summer lobster cookouts at the lake, attending sporting and school activities of her children and grandchildren, and having grandkids' sleepovers. She loved a good lobster roll, chocolate donut and carrot cupcake.

In recent years she could be found singing to her musicals every day.

Geneva traveled to many U.S. states, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Finland; she

frequently made trips to the Coast (especially Schoodic Point).

Geneva was a Registered Nurse and made many lifelong friends among her nursing

classmates. She had many roles at Eastern Maine General Hospital/Eastern Maine

Medical Center, including her favorite in Labor and Delivery. She ended her career caring for patients in the Cancer Rehab ward.

She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of 43 years; her siblings and their spouses- Raymond (Helene)Aucoin, Rita (Johnny) Johnson, Elaine/Bo (Jimmy) McDonough and Theresa/Tiny (Hugh) Davis and her youngest daughter, Teresa (Terri).

She is survived by her children: Susan (Eric) Lahti of Madison, M Kathy (Jim) Connolly of Bangor, Jean (Vin) King of Clarksburg MA, Lois (Ken) Ruff of Bryant Pond and Tom Ainaire of Rochester NH.

She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Shelley (Joe) West, Karin (Jim) Spalding, Hannele (David)Lahti, Adam Lahti, Kristen (Kenny) Jandreau, Jim (Chelsea) Connolly, Matthew Connolly, Kevin Connolly, Curt (Nikki)Yannone, Craig Yannone, Michael (Emily) Ainaire and Marie (Will) Hurley. She will also be missed by her many great -grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, their families, numerous extended family members and friends.

The family is extremely grateful to the Visiting Angels who became like family and

enabled mom to stay in her home until September, to members of Bristol and Northern Light Hospice, and to all the staff at Stillwater Health Care for the loving care they gave her during her rehabilitation and final days. She enjoyed visits from nurse Melissa, as well as Chaplains Dan and Dave who brought her comfort by praying,and singing hymns..

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are appreciated to the American Heart

Association or your favorite charity.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 pm Friday, May 1, 2026 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. The Rite of Committal will be held at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall, following the mass.
