Gary J. Theriault, 70, of Bangor, passed away on August 20, 2026. He was born on November 18, 1955, in Milo, Maine, to Clayton W. and Hazel M. (Thompson) Theriault.

Gary graduated from Bangor High School in 1974 before going on to attend the University of Maine, graduating in 1978. He went on to spend his life's work in service of other people's growth: for over 30 years he taught at the Penobscot Job Corps Center, where he helped countless students earn their GEDs - the accomplishment he was proudest of in his long teaching career. For more than 35 years, he was also the swim coach at Orono High School, where he poured himself into the development of his swimmers, and for his commitment, was inducted into the Orono High School Athletic Hall of Fame in December 2024.

Outside of work, Gary was an avid reader and a dedicated cyclist, completing the Trek Across Maine multiple times. He was known by nearly everyone in his life as never one to pass up the chance for a laugh.

Gary was predeceased by his parents; brother, Timothy E. Theriault; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his son, Ross C. R. Theriault, and his wife, Jennifer; grandson, Alexandre; brother, Ronald A. Theriault, and his wife, Patricia; nephew, Curtis Theriault; niece, Andrea Theriault Holbrook; and many cousins and other Theriaults who loved him.

Funeral prayers and Rite of Committal will be prayed at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 1pm.
