Frank Sonia

Hampden - Frank B. Sonia Jr., 85, died March 29, 2016, at Maine Medical in Portland surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 7, 1930, in Bangor, the son of Frank B. and Hazel B. (Dean) Sonia Sr.

Frank was a 1949 graduate of Bangor High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Frank was an automotive painter for several local companies. He also drove the courtesy van for Down East Toyota for many years. Frank was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox’s, Boston Celtics, and the New York Giants. He loved collecting coins and had acquired an extensive collection over the years. Frank will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents and sister Frances Dragon, Frank was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Elthier Louise Sonia. He is survived by his children, Cheryl McGowan and husband, Joe, of Milford, David Sonia and wife, Renee, of Hampden, Frank A. Sonia of Biddeford, and James Sonia of Saco; grandchildren, Amanda Infante and husband, Joe, Nichole Spaulding and fiancé Jason Boyce, Leeann Kaiser, Thomas Kaiser, Tyler Sonia and Rita Saucier; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Gavin Infante, and Aiden Higgins; several nieces, nephews and friends.
