Frank Leslie Banks, of Virginia, passed away on December 9th, 2025. He was born in Bangor, Maine, to George and Arleile Banks.

Frank was educated in Bangor and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1962, with a degree in mechanical engineering and as a member of the Lamda Chi fraternity. His first job was with the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts, which is also where he met his wife.

When the armory closed down, Frank moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where Frank worked for the Navy Department (Naval Facilities Engineering Command) building naval bases in Asia. His job then moved him to Bremerton, Washington, where he worked to build the submarine base Kitsap-Bangor. When the base was finished, Frank moved once again, this time to Jacksonville, Florida, so that he could work on the submarine base in St Mary's, GA.

Shortly after the move, Frank was promoted, and so he and his family moved one last time to the Washington D.C. area, where they still live. After over 30 years with them, Frank would eventually retire from the Navy Department. He then briefly worked for the Maryland Parks Department, and then he accepted a job with the US State Department. His retirement job took him to 31 countries around the world, in which he made embassies and consulates safer.

Mr. Banks is survived by his wife, his three children, his two grandsons, his sister, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service for Mr. Banks at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center St., Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, at 11:00 AM. He will be buried later that day at Mt.
