Elizabeth (Betty) Harriman McGary, RN

Bangor

Elizabeth (Betty) Harriman McGary, RN, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed

away peacefully at her home on October 10, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by her

loving family and dear friends.

Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, on February 17, 1934, Betty was the daughter of John and Alyce

Harriman. She graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1952, and went on to earn her

nursing degree from Eastern Maine General Hospital in 1955.

Betty married Robert E. McGary, and together they made their home in Bangor, sharing 49

wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted member of All Souls Church and actively

involved in numerous organizations, including the Junior League of Bangor, JC Wives,

Chapter B P.E.O., and the Quipus Club. She also served on the Good Samaritan Board and the

EMMC Auxiliary Board and volunteered at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

An avid bridge player, Betty cherished her weekly games with dear friends for more than 70

years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. McGary, and her grandson, Troy Gaudet.

Betty is survived by her sister, Jane Harriman of Maryland; her sons, Robert McGary Jr.

and his wife, Carol, of Massachusetts, and Brent McGary of Bangor; daughters, Jill Gaudet

and her significant other, Gary Whitten, of Florida, and Susan Studer and her significant

other, Gary Shafer, of Florida; grandsons, Ryan Gaudet of Florida, and Richie Studer and

his wife, Megan, of Florida; and great-grandchildren, Piper Studer and Rhett Studer, also

of Florida.

Private graveside services will be held for the family.
