Drew Parker Milliken
Bangor – Drew Parker Milliken, 70, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home, October 31, 2018. He was born September 9, 1948, in Belfast, the son of Frederic G., and Marian Y. Milliken.
He graduated from Camden-Rockport High School. He went on to study at Farmington State College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary English. A lifelong learner, Drew went on to obtain two masters degrees and a certificate of advanced study at the University of Maine.
Drew began his teaching career at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft. A year later, along with his wife, Julia, he established his 37 year career in Bangor. Drew first taught at Union Street Junior High, then he went to Garland Street Middle School. The majority of his teaching career was spent at Bangor High School, where he dedicated himself to his students and colleagues. Some teachers are born, others are made, Drew was a born teacher. His commitment to his students’ success in school, as well as in their lives, was evident at all times.
As dedicated as he was to his students, his greatest joy was his family. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by the girl with the red rain hat, Julia, and they just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Susan, of Massachusetts, and Jennifer, of Bangor; his most beloved granddaughters, Julia and Ella Holden, of Massachusetts.
Drew is also mourned by Jonathan and Kathy Pyska, of North Monmouth, and their son, Major Jason Pyska and his family, of North Carolina; and his cousin, Dennis Milliken and his wife, Debra, of Rockport; as well as other family members.
A celebration of Drew’s life will be scheduled in the near future.
