Bangor, Maine - Donald James Logan, 71, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor.

Don was born on January 13, 1955, to Mildred and Greene Logan, one of five children. He proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, living by the motto, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." In the 1980s, Don moved to Maine, where he met the love of his life, Paula. The couple later relocated to Florida so Don could attend nursing school in Jacksonville. After earning his nursing degree, they returned to Maine, where Don began his career at Bangor Mental Health Institute (BMHI). He later joined Acadia Hospital when it opened in 1992 and dedicated the next 28 years to caring for individuals with mental illness. His compassion, professionalism, and commitment to his patients touched countless lives before his retirement in 2020.

Outside of his career, Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and treasured hunting, fishing, and target shooting with his sons, Matthew and Andrew, and his longtime best friend, Mike. He was a proud member and longtime board member of the Orrington Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with others. One of the greatest joys of Don's life was becoming "Poppa." Although he had only one year with his beloved grandchildren, James and Harper, he filled that time with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Don was predeceased by his father, Greene Logan; his mother, Mildred Logan; his stepfather, Ray Mansfield; and his father-in-law, Donald Hanson. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Paula; his sons, Matthew and his wife, Emily, and Andrew and his wife, Danielle; his cherished grandchildren, James and Harper; his sisters, Sandra, Jan, and Judy; his twin brother, Ron; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Brookings-Smith, Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2026. Interment with military honors will follow at Jonathan Eddy Cemetery, Eddington.  A celebration of Don's life will immediately follow at the Hilton Garden Inn on Haskell Road in Bangor.

In lieu of flowers, Don requested that memorial donations be made to the Orrington Rod and Gun Club or the Pixel Fund Pet Rescue, two organizations that reflected his lifelong love of the outdoors and his compassion for animals.
