David M. Lieberman
Bangor
David Michael Lieberman was born in Bangor, ME, on July 10,1937 to Samuel and Ruth (Goldsmith) Lieberman . He was educated in the Bangor School System and Gould Academy in Bethel, ME. He graduated from Bangor High in the Class of 1956. While David was just in his first year in business school in Boston, his father died unexpectedly at the age of 46. His family persuaded David to return home to work, and help his mother and brother .
David was employed at Standard Electric Company as a salesman until 1964. It was at that point that he and his brother ,Barrry, created Dabar Beauty Supply ,selling wholesale beauty products to beauty salons from Augusta to Ft. Kent. In the same year, David married Marcia Berson , also of Bangor. The couple recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
After Barry left Dabar , David continued the business for a while before closing it to work for larger companies as a road salesman. He was a manufacturer's rep for such employers as Revlon Cosmetics and Rust Craft Greeting Cards. His final stint ,followed by retirement in 2012 ,was for Michael Loeb,Inc. David sold souveniers, gifts ,impulse items, toys, and games ,traveling the entire State of Maine. David loved talking his way to sales with the many varied customers along the way. He especially loved being at the Boston Gift Show and New York Toy Fairs.
David was a member of the Army National Guard ,receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1965, sand a Vice president of the Bangor Jaycees in the 1960'. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel where he was a longtime member of its Board of Directors and served both as Secretary and Vice President. He and Marcia received Volunteers of the Year award from the Congregation in 20..
David loved sports ,especially basketball. He was on the Gould Academy team and won a prize many years later at the Senior Games for Most Foul Shots. He participated as a coach at the Bangor YMCA and at home with his family. David loved being his children's biggest fan as they played Little League baseball. He loved attending Bangor High football and basketball games even after his offspring had graduated.
David loved being with his family and enjoyed the many get-togethers in Bangor , MA, and NJ. He called each of his five granddaughters," My Girl" and was immensely proud of his two grandsons.
David was pre-deceased by his parents and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia ;his daughter, Amy and her husband ,Jay Salinger of Framingham, MA; Son ,James and his wife, Karen, of Randolph NJ; and his son, Matthew and wife, Stacey ,of Medway ,MA .;grandchildren: Dr. Elliot Salinger(Sarah Ricklan, M.D.);Sarah Salinger ,Ari Salinger, Madison Lieberman ,Arielle Lieberman, Shaina Lieberman, and Leah Lieberman; and, one very special Great-granddaughter, Claire Orit Salingeer. David is also survived by his sister-in-law, Deborah Rosenthal, several nieces, nephews, and cousins .
The family wishes to thank the many that cared for him at Northern Light EMMC, Ross Manor, and Northern Light Hospice.
A funeral service will be held 1 pm. Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor.
