David James Horner was born April 26, 1954 in Columbia City, Indiana, the first child of Richard Horner and Marjorie Colp Horner. Even as a newborn he charmed the nurses who took care of him; they claimed he was the prettiest baby in the hospital. David grew up in New Brunswick, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. He was a stamp collector, avid reader, collector of GI Joes and an animal lover. Once he rescued a hungry raccoon who had gotten his head stuck in a tin can. As a teenager he discovered rock and roll, and a lifetime love of music. He graduated from Bob Jones Academy in 1971, and later attended Greenville Technical College and worked for several years for the Greenville Museum of Art. Over the years he worked as a tobacconist, in a plant nursery, as an editorial cartoonist. In 1992 he graduated from Yarmouth Regional School of Nursing with an RN degree. He worked at Queens Manor in Liverpool, NS where he was a favorite with the elderly ladies who called him "Dr. Horner." He later moved to Bangor where he worked for many years at Dorothea Dix psychiatric hospital. David was a kind, generous soul, loved by many friends and co-workers. He loved books and history, as evidenced by his large library. He also loved folk music and attended many concerts and festivals in his life. David had a quick wit and a self-deprecating sense of humor. He was generous to a fault. David was predeceased by his father, Richard Horner, and his dear friend Brecon Oldham. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Horner, his brother, Philip Horner (Eileen), his sisters Deborah Horner-Richardson (Kevin), and Esther Roorda (Doug). A favorite Uncle, he is survived by twenty nieces and nephews who mourn his passing.
