David Gerard Gould
Winterport
David Gerard Gould, 68, died on October 6, 2026 after a long illness. He passed away at his home in Winterport, Maine surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 9, 1958 in Martinsville, Virginia to Henry and Eleanor (Fanning) Gould. He graduated from high school in Kennebunk, Maine in 1976 and earned a bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from UMass Amherst in 1980 and a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech in 1982. He spent his career as a city planner in Hampden and Bangor, Maine until retiring in 2019.
He will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh with his quick wit. He frequently invented silly songs for his children and enjoyed spending time with his family and beloved wife Anne. He enjoyed observing the wildlife that frequented his home and was always taking photos of nature.
He loved learning about history, particularly about his family's roots in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He extensively researched his father's service in WWII and connected with veterans who served with his father. He was active in his church, St. Gabriel's in Winterport where he served as an eucharistic minister and volunteered on the finance committee.
He is survived by his wife Anne (Rackliff) Gould of 40 years. His three loving children Catherine Gould of Portland, Oregon, Rebecca (Gould) Arnold of Jordan, Minnesota and her husband Seth, and Adam Gould of Centreville, Virginia. Brothers Richard Gould and his wife Susan of Solon, Ohio, Christoper Gould and his wife Kathleen Schwartz of Crozet, Virginia. Sister Elizabeth Gould and her husband Leigh Sherwood of Lexington, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his Aunt Andree Fanning of Woonsocket, Rhode Island as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Valerie (Gould) Anastasia of Rhode Island.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7 PM, Thursday October 15, 2026 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday October 16, 2026 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Gabriel's Catholic Church 435 S Main St, Winterport, Maine. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in Columbian Hall at St. Gabriel's following the service and interment with the Rite of Committal at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research who is studying Dave's condition.
