Dana Chase

BANGOR- Dana Chase, 82, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at a Bangor long-term health care facility. He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Millinocket, son of Julian and Edna (Arbo) Chase.Dana grew up in Patten and later in his teens moved to Presque Isle where he graduated from Presque Isle High School. Upon graduation, Dana's love of aviation made him decide to enter the U.S. Air Force. Dec. 31, 1953, he married Mary Lou Frost with whom he would share 40 years together until her passing in 1993. Dana's military career took him around the world and back again. He went to Libya, Germany, France, Hawaii, California Colorado, New Mexico, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., as well as Topsham, Presque Isle, and Loring Air Force Bases. He served 21 years in the service retiring as a Master Sergeant, and in later years Dana still had his sense of duty and was an active troop greeter at Bangor International Airport. After his retirement he went to work for the State of Maine in the employment agency for 20 years. In retirement Dana spent many winters in Florida and made many lifelong friends, including special friends, Steve, Ed and Ross. His coffee group, bowling and the church groups they had at Village Green Trailer Park were all an important part of his life in Florida. Dana's faith in God was also an essential part to who he was and he displayed it by being a kind man of integrity whose generosity didn't have to be seen by others. In earlier years he attended State Street Baptist Church, Presque Isle, and was a long time attendee of Colombia Street Baptist Church, Bangor. He loved sports and was torn between the Devil Rays and the Red Sox, long drives either to Florida or to Aroostook County.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Lou (Frost) Chase. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Chase of Cape Neddick, and Susan Chase of Brunswick; "third daughter," Mary Campbell of Cape Neddick; sister, Phyllis Canney and husband, the Rev. Raymond, of Lisbon Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and the "Arbo Clan" from Patten. He also leaves behind special neighborhood friends, Herb and Audrey Beane and Barbara Warner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kelli and staff at Winterberry Heights and especially to Jackie who helped Dana get "Air Force ready" daily. As well a special thanks to Dr. Clifford Singer, his nurse, Rachel Wing RNC, and Julie Kingsbury, FNP for all of their compassionate care.Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Bangor Chapel, 133 Center St. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, at Brookings-Smith, Bangor, with the Rev. Stan Moody officiating. A committal with military honors will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
