Charles "Chuck" M. Kennedy
Orrington
Charles "Chuck" Kennedy, 96, passed away August 14, 2026 at his home. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI, May 8, 1930 the son of Earl and Emma Kennedy. Chuck was educated in Michigan Schools, finishing high school in the Navy. He attended radio school in Norfolk, VA and communications tech school in Puget Sound, WA.
Chuck married Ethel Ford while stationed in Winter Harbor, ME. They had two children; a daughter Peggy, born in Guam, Mariana Islands and a son, Lawrence, born in Panama, Canal zone.
Chuck became a member of the US Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association and a member of the Orrington, VFW.
Ater ten years in the Navy, Chuck worked for Bangor Hydro-Electric Company. He was a member of the Electrical Council New England (Metering) and assisted L. and K. International Video Training on their metering Program Services. He retired as Metering Superintendent after thirty-five years.
Civically Chuck was active in Orrington's J.C.'s and was spark plug of the year in 1965-66.
He was a member and trustee of EOCC and taught Sunday school for five years. A school board member for twelve years, loan secretary of Bangor Hydro Federal Credit Union for three years, board of directors and president for twelve years. Masonically, Chuck started his Degree in Sojourners Lodge in Panama was raised as a courtesy in Lagonia Lodge, Ellsworth. He was past High Priest of Hancock #19 of Bucksport. A member of St. John's Commandry #3 of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor and Portland. Chuck joined Anah Shrine in 1967, and was a member of the Foot Patrol and secretary/treasurer for twelve years. He assisted in getting the units to sell novelties at the Shrine Circus and was assistant circus chair. He served on the East West Hockey committee, and was appointed an aide in 1982, assistant chief aide in 1983, chief aide in 1988 and director's staff in 1992. Chuck was a life member and past director of Bangor Brewer shrine Club, life member of the Aroostook shrine club, Washington county shrine club, Hancock county shrine club and Northern Penobscot shrine club. A member of Tri county shrine club, Old Town Orono shrine club and past director and member of Waldo county shrine club, and was a life member of the Sunshine club for children.
In 2010 Chuck served as Potentate of Anah Shrine for that year.
Surviving are, two daughters, Akemi Rogers and her husband, Raymond, Peggy Kennedy and her husband Roger; a daughter-in-law, Rose Kennedy, three grandchildren, Brett Davis, Greg Rogers and DeAnn Deveau; great grandchildren, William Deveau, Amelia Dawkins, Morgan Davis, Collettte "Luca" Davis and Logan Davis; a sister, Nancy Kennedy ; a brother, Dan Kennedy; longtime companion, Dorothy Bennett; a special niece, Deborah Hodgkins, special nephew, Mike Briggs and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel Ford Kennedy and a son, Lawrence Kennedy.
A graveside service with military and masonic honors will be held 11 am Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Dean Hill cemetery, Orrington.
