Winterport, Maine - Charles "Butch" Canty passed away peacefully December 2, 2024, after a brief illness, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bangor, July 15, 1946, the son of C. Russell and Thelma (Fitzsimmons) Canty.
Butch grew up in Winterport and attended schools there. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967 and served for two years. Butch was employed as a millwright at Eastern Fine Paper for 33 years until their closing in 2004. At the age of 57, he obtained his C.D.L. license and drove tractor trailer until his retirement in 2009.
He loved his family, God and his country. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared that passion with his grandsons. He was a kind and generous man, always with a warm smile, a story or a teasing comment. Butch had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. Butch was a lover of animals. He will be sadly missed forever.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne; son, Michael and partner, Ron; daughter, Darlene; two grandsons, Devin and Aaidyn; and his two canine fur babies, Sadie and Molly. Butch was predeceased by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Hampden Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, at a time to be announced in the spring.
