Carolyn Whipps Leick

Carolyn Whipps Leick, 88, of Bangor, Maine passed away on October 26th, 2026. Carolyn was born in Columbus, Ohio, on April 27, 1938.

Carolyn attended Upper Arlington High School and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1960 with a degree in education and music. She moved to Maine in 1977, where she furthered her lifelong career as an educator by earning a Master's degree in educational leadership and a Doctorate of Education in literacy, both from the University of Maine in Orono. She held a lifelong passion for music and sang soprano with the Surry Opera Company throughout the 1990's.

Dedicated to childhood literacy, Carolyn supported countless children and families throughout her career, serving as a guidance counselor, teacher, principal, and curriculum coordinator across Ohio, Tennessee, New Hampshire, and Maine. She also served Orono and the wider community as a member of the Orono School Board, The School board of the United Technologies Center, and a Patron of the Maine Grand Opera. 

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Belinda Leick; and her son, Thomas Leick, both of Orono, Maine. She is remembered fondly by the Schmitz and Leick families of Prüm and Lichtenborn, Germany. Interment will be private.
