Betty Joanne Morrison McGraw, 76, passed away peacefully April 9, 2025. She was born on July 6, 1948 at the Island Falls Hospital, the daughter of Alston and Gertrude (Mclaughlin) Morrison of Dyer Brook, ME.
Betty graduated from Island Falls High School in 1966. She graduated from Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, ME with a diploma of nursing degree in 1969. She also attended Ricker College. She furthered her education and received her bachelor's degree in nursing. Betty married Chet McGraw in 1969 and they raised their family in the house they built in Dyer Brook, ME. Betty started working on the Monday following graduation at Madigan Hospital in Houlton, ME. She worked at Houlton Regional Hospital in many different roles of the course of many years. In 1996 she started working at Eastern Maine Medical Center in the Emergency Department. The ED was what she loved. She also worked as house nursing supervisor, Walk in Care Nurse Manager, and in a Primary Care Practice until her retirement in 2015. Most recently Betty read state board exams to people and proctored exams. She enjoyed staying connected to nursing with that job in retirement.
Betty loved fishing, watching wildlife, time at camp when married to Chet, and sunsets from their home they built in Dyer Brook. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her grandkids. Betty loved following the Red Sox and shared that passion with her sister Charlotte the last few years, they would talk on the phone as they watched the game at their own house. She loved following high school basketball and would watch most evenings on WHOU streaming service. In her retirement she was able to travel with her sister Charlotte and take fishing trips with Charlotte and brother Mel. She enjoyed supporting and watching her granddaughters, Abby and Lauren, in all their childhood activities. One favorite outing was with her sisters Judy and Charlotte and cousin Helen to a Dolly Parton concert. They got a limo to and from the concert and had some "red carpet treatment" to and from their seats.
