Alfred J. Thibodeau

Bangor - Alfred J. Thibodeau, 89, died peacefully at home in Bangor, Maine, on September 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He has now gone to rest eternally with the Lord. He was born February 18, 1937, in Van Buren, Maine, the son of Alfred and Irene (Durepos) Thibodeau.

Al graduated from Van Buren Boys' High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for over 25 years. His duty stations included Puerto Rico, Okinawa, Japan, Viet Nam and several military installations along the East Coast of the United States. After retiring from the Corps in 1980, he worked for H.O. Bouchard and later for the United States Postal Service. He graduated from Husson College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Al shared more than 59 years of marriage with Lena (Cyr) Thibodeau. Together they raised a family of four children of whom they were extremely proud. He was a devout and faithful Catholic serving several parishes during his life as a Eucharistic Minister and as a member of the Parish Council. He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Church, for over 45 years. He also volunteered at the Eastern Area Agency on Aging. Al exemplified the core values of the Marine Corps: Honor, Courage, and Commitment. He instilled these values into his children and grandchildren, who now pass them on to his great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Al was predeceased by his sister, Geneva (Thibodeau) Martin, and his brother-in-law, Wilfred "Titi" Martin. He will be lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses, Cheryl and Paul Morrow, Lynn and Bruce Thibodeau, Debbie and Micah Rodgerson, and Jeff and Jennifer Thibodeau; his grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Allison Thibodeau, Paul Jr. and Caitlin Morrow, Zach and Sarah Hamilton, Megan Thibodeau, Jeffrey Thibodeau, Matthew Morrow and Casey Thibodeau; his great-grandchildren, Evan Morrow, William Thibodeau and Madelyn Morrow; and his nephew, Jim Martin and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5-7 pm Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the Committal.
