Albert Rummel

September 27, 1940 — July 8, 2022

LUBEC - Albert W. Rummel, 81, died unexpectedly on July 8, 2022, at a Bangor hospital with, Denise, his wife and companion of 40 years, by his side. Al was born September 27,1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Albert W. and Beatrice M. (Rake) Rummel.

Al graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he served in the National Guard.

Al moved to New York City and began selling advertising for IBM, Time-Life, and The Museum of Natural History. An opportunity to buy a Pub on the upper Eastside of Manhattan, “The No Name Pub,” presented itself in the early seventies. Thus, he began a new adventure. Shortly after, he acquired a 2nd pub/restaurant on Lexington Avenue, “The Pub on Lex.” - but moving to Key West, Florida, in the ’80s, Al found his work passion, selling real estate! By 1985, while on summer vacation, he and his future wife, Denise Plouffe, bought a summer home on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. The couple continued to split their time between Key West, Florida and the Maritimes until permanently moving to Lubec and purchasing Due East Real Estate in 2003. Due East Real Estate grew to have three beautiful offices, in Lubec, Eastport, and Calais, Maine.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Denise, is his daughter from a former marriage, Stephanie Murray, of New York City; one sister, Mary McKenna and her husband, Michael, of Colorado; one brother, Edward Rummel, of Aurora, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was recently predeceased by a sister, Ruth Horvath, in 2019.
