Alan D. Pinkham (October 20, 1961-November 27, 2025)

DIXMONT, MAINE - RET 1SG Alan D. Pinkham, 64, passed on Thanksgiving Day, 2025 with the love of his life, Dorothy, by his side. Thanksgiving was a day that the two would always celebrate together until the end. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and son.

Alan enjoyed his time at camp, where he made homemade soups and bean hole beans and invited camp friends over to enjoy food and conversation. Everyone loved his cooking. Camp time wouldn't be camp time without playing cribbage with family and friends. He would know the points in your hand before you could count them.

He was blessed with friends Ted, Charlie, Greg and Heather to help out at home, store and camp which gave him two fun-filled months to spend with his wife at their new home in Florida.

Alan's passion with gaming lead him to owning a gaming store where he made many gaming friends. It was important for him to support the community with his Pokémon baskets or donating to different organizations. His legacy will live on with Ted, the new owner.

He was born on the coast of Maine in 1961, to Iona Melva James and Albert Leon Pinkham. He was a hardy lifelong Mainer and learned life lessons through experiences. Alan labored on the demanding mud flats for his first job, contributing to his lifelong work ethic. He and his cousin decided to join the Marine Corps together in 1980. He enjoyed telling the story of how the recruiter told them "Have a good last night together before shipping off." So, they had one last big thrill and couldn't make it to the originally scheduled round of boot camp. He joined a few months later.

A proud veteran, Alan served 4 years in the Marine Corps (1980-1984), 2 years in the Marine Corps Reserves (1984-1986), and 34 years in the Maine Army National Guard (1987-2021), attaining the prestigious rank of 1SG before his retirement. He served in the 1136th Transportation Company, 120th Regional Support Group, 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 521st Troop Command, and Joint Force Headquarters in the Army National Guard. He deployed with the 1136th Transportation Company in Operation Iraq Freedom in 2003-2004. While serving his country, he earned Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, 2 National Defense Service Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medals, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, as well as many other state and federal awards.

Alan was proud to have served his country in defense of the freedom of citizens across the nation. His greatest legacy is his service towards his fellow veterans. He was a caring, compassionate, and humble man, who would deny all of those adjectives. He made you earn his friendship, those who knew him well could hear the humor in his candid truth telling abilities. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure his fellow soldiers were taken care of. It was his standard of care. While working for the Maine National Guard Family Program and in his role as a Non-Commissioned Officer he helped hundreds of service members attain resources, essential items, and ensured everyone who walked through his door was well taken care of. His greatest pride in his military career was his mentorship, and the individuals he impacted and not the valor of his military career.

Family was more than just blood to Alan. He created family through marriage, work, and community. When he married Dottie, her kids instantly became his, and he was always beaming with pride about them. In the military he created a network of soldiers that he took under his wing and mentored. In his Family Program role, he fostered a culture of soldiers, civilians, and contractors that became bonded through experiences that would do anything for each other. In retirement Alan and Dottie opened up their dream store to sell collectibles, plants, and card games. In doing so he created a local gaming community that comes together to play and support one another at AD Crossroads Collectibles and Gifts. They all became a part of his family. One he would always protect and cherish.

In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his brothers, Bud Pinkham and Mike Pinkham. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Pinkham, Faithful K9 companion, Rocky; his daughters, Jenessa Sinclair and her husband, Jason, Sarah Harris and her husband, Aaron, Desiree Stuart and her husband, Joe; sons, Robert Caruso and his wife, Heather and Jesse Caruso; sisters, Kathy Ward and her husband, Greg, Lois Leask, Karen Pinkham, Stephanie Pinkham and her significant other, David, and Tina Pinkham and her significant other, Jeff; brothers, Fred Pinkham and Ernie Pinkham and his wife, Jenny; grandchildren, Dominick, Max, Zachary, Shelby, Gage, Gem, Olivia, Spencer, Eleanor, Lakelyn, Ryder, Rose and Daphne and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a graveside service in the late spring where everyone can meet and reminisce.
