Abraham Carel Wertheim

Abraham Carel Wertheim ("Abe" or "Acci") died Monday, October 27th, 2026, at his home in Hermon, Maine. He was 85. Abe was born in the Netherlands during the German occupation to Johannes and Eva Wertheim.

He was a Holocaust survivor who, as a young child, endured internment at both the Westerbork and Theresienstadt camps alongside his parents and brother. The young family fled to Switzerland in 1944 and returned to the Netherlands in 1947, where he grew up. At 24, Abe immigrated to the United States and graduated from Westchester Community College in New York. He met the love of his life, Marilyn Meyer, at a college dance in 1967. They married in 1969, had three children, and remained profoundly in love and inseparable best friends for the next 57 years of marriage.

Abe became an accomplished entrepreneur, inventing, patenting, and developing products for the printing industry. In his spare time, he loved reading, traveling, listening to classical music, and working with model trains. He spent countless hours programming custom circuits to guide complex train routes through miniaturized scenery. Abe will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johannes and Eva, and his siblings, Alexander (Lex) and Dina (Dinca).

Shared Legacy
Abraham and Marilyn are survived by Marilyn's brother Jeffrey and sister-in-law Anne; Abe's sister-in-law Truus and brother-in-law Jean-Pierre; their three children, Robert (Leah), Eric (Gina), and Caryn (Kurt); five grandchildren, Toby, Nora, Eli, Emily, and James; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Glenburn.
