Obituary for Lawrence Edward Puls
Bangor - Larry was born in Flushing, New York, that's right near New York City, to Bill and Kay. Larry grew up in Long Island, New York with his brothers Bill and Don. His favorite recollection was riding the train into "The City" to catch two professional baseball games in one day for just a few bucks. Baseball was always his sport. He always thought baseball was a thinking man's sport and excelled as a lefty in high school.
Larry served his country with pride for 27 years in the United States Air Force. His tours were in the United States and Europe.
The education community received a gifted teacher in Larry as he guided, coached, and made lasting friendships with staff and students. He loved the idea of giving knowledge with a dose of reality and common sense. After 20 years in the classroom he actually retired, retired.
Larry was an active volunteer at Saint Patrick's Episcopal church, Coles Land Transportation Museum, James W. Williams American Legion Post 12, and, in years past, University of Maine Athletic department. He had a special spot in his heart for the Maine Softball program. All of these benefited from his organizational skills and willingness to make a difference.
Life is perfect when you have a partner, Bonnie, and children, Eric and Michelle. Eric found his forever love in Monica and they blessed him with loving granddaughters, Katherine and Alexandria. Michelle and her partner, Emily, added to their love by adopting two grand pups.
His circle of friends from childhood, military, his children's sports teams and schools, University of Maine softball, and his volunteering all gave him inspiration and joy. We his family and friends will mourn Larry. He left us with love, patience, and caring that will sustain us.
Services will be offered at Saint Patrick's Episcopal Church, 21 Holyoke Street, Brewer, Maine, beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13. Interment will follow at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, Maine. Friends and family wishing to give hugs and kindness are welcome to visit with family at "The House On The Hill," Friday and Saturday 5-7 p.m.
