Obituary for Diane Barbara Cutler
Diane B. Cutler, 94, died gracefully and peacefully on February 9, 2023, at a Bangor hospital. She was born on July 26, 1928 in New York City, the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Auerbach) Schwat.
Diane attended schools on Long Island, NY and graduated from Adelphi College. She subsequently worked in the retail industry in Manhattan, where she met David Cutler. They married and moved to Bangor in 1953, and David joined the Cutler family’s retail clothing business in Old Town. Years later, after raising their family, she managed Cutler’s Bridal Shop in Bangor. Diane was an active member of her community, serving in numerous roles including appointments to the Bangor Planning Board and the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar. She was a founder and board member of the Penobscot Valley Senior College, and deeply engaged with its activities.
Diane will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends. She was predeceased by David, her husband of 66 years, her son Michael, and her brothers Samuel and Martin. Diane is survived by her daughter Judith Sproule and husband Thomas, her adored grandchildren, Anya, Jonathan, and Samuel, and three generations of cherished nieces and nephews.
