Obituary for Alvin Lawrence Holland

ALVIN “AL” LAWRENCE HOLLAND – HERMON

Alvin “Al” Lawrence Holland died peacefully on April 5, 2023 at his home in Hermon. He was born January 17, 1936 in Steuben, the son of Lee and Doris (Leighton) Holland.

Alvin was 1 of 12 graduates from the Cherryfield Academy, Class of 1955. After graduation, Alvin worked locally until he enlisted in the US Army in 1959. He was honorably discharged in 1964 after 4 years of active duty. Alvin worked various construction jobs after his discharge from the Army, most notably Cianbro Corporation from 1976-1988 and Lou Silver from 1988-2015.

Alvin was very independent and loved to be on the go. Even after retirement, he was very active and loved being with his grandchildren, constantly building memories and providing a home away from home for them all.

Alvin is survived by his step daughter, Renea Doughty and her husband, Shayne, of Glenburn; son, Larry Holland of Carmel; daughter in law, Tina Holland of Hermon; grandchildren, Derek Tripp, Kasey Holland, Kelsey Harding and her husband, Joseph, Gabrielle Doughty, Doug Holland Jr., Caleb Doughty and Danielle Holland; great granddaughters, Bailey Damon and Asher Burke; two step children, Randy Galen of Veazie and Lisa Tucker of Louisiana; three sisters, Mildred Dinsmore, Rachel Holland and Margaret Ginn, all of Steuben; several nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Brittany Damon of Bangor, who cared for Alvin until the very end. In addition to his parents, Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine “Deanie” Holland; brothers, Buddy and Freeman; and his youngest son, Douglas Holland Sr.

Services will be held at 10am, Saturday April 15, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor with Reverend Gail Januskiewicz officiating. Interment will be at Morse Cemetery in Cherryfield following the service.
