Obituary for Abby Lynn Guernsey

ABBY LYNN GUERNSEY,

BANGOR.

Abby, 20, died peacefully at home on March 28, 2023, following a courageous battle with Rett Syndrome. Abby was a student at Bangor High School, where she enjoyed being with her friends and attending her classes, especially the arts. One of Abby’s favorite activities was bowling annually in the Special Olympics, where she was awarded many first-place ribbons. When she wasn’t at school, Abby enjoyed listening to music, especially the Back Street Boys, and floating in her pool, which she received from the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Maine. Though Abby had no words, you always knew what she was thinking through her infectious smile and notorious stink eye.

Surviving in addition to her parents Garrett and Katie (Malchiodi) Guernsey of Bangor, sister Emma Guernsey and fiancé Evan Andrews. Grandmother Linda Guernsey of Bangor, aunts and uncles Eric Malchiodi and Shelley Tozier of Monroe, Micheal Guernsey of Old Orchard Beach, Vicki and Dale Trundy of Glenburn, Kerry and Christopher Bushway, Alisa, and Gregory Guernsey, and Matthew Guernsey all of Bangor. Cousins, Andrew, Stephen, Owen, Austin, Olivia, Isaac, and Michela. Abby was preceded by grandparents Judith Malchiodi, Anthony “Grumpy” Malchiodi, and Edward Guernsey.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, therapists, and friends who cared for Abby so attentively and compassionately for the past 20 years, with special thanks to the CHCS hospice team.

The family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of her life from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. in Bangor. This is a celebration, NO BLACK; please be casual in your brightest colors and jeans. Those who wish to remember Abby in a special way may make donations in her honor to the Make-a-Wish foundation of Maine at 66 Mussey Road, Scarborough, ME 04074, or online at wish.org/maine.
