Life Story for Robert Wesley Hunt

Bangor and Fullerton, CA – Robert W. Hunt, 92, went home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2017 in Fullerton, CA. Bob was born on June 23, 1924 in Burnham, the son of Arnold Hunt and Etta Hunt Jones.

Bob graduated from Clinton High School in 1942. Following graduation he entered the United States Army Air Corp, where he served until December 1945. In June 1946, he married Ruth Libby and they settled in Veazie. Bob continued his education by attending the University of Maine. In June 1951 he graduated with distinction with a degree in Business. While in school he worked sewing shoes. In 1955, they moved to Bangor where they bought their first house. After working as an accountant for several years, in 1962 he became employed as the manager of the grocery store, Doug’s Shop N Save in Bangor where he worked until his retirement in 1987. After retirement Bob and Ruth enjoyed traveling. They purchased a motor home and traveled to many places visiting family and friends in Florida, Texas and California. Bob and Ruth were members of Columbia Street Baptist Church since 1951 where he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and as President of the church and is a deacon emeritus for his lifelong service. He was also a member and past president of the Bangor Kiwanis Club. Bob enjoyed fishing at Lucerne Lake where he and Ruth spent many summers at their cottage. He also enjoyed his summer activities with friends attending concerts, bean suppers and drives to the coast.

In addition to his parents Bob was predeceased by his wife Ruth; great grandson Finn Parker Urgo; and his three siblings, Dorothy, Virginia and Alan. He is survived by a son Robert W. Hunt Jr. of Atlanta, GA; daughters Carol McCann and her husband Raymond of Fullerton, CA and Susan Hale and her husband Blake of Bridgewater, VA; five grandchildren, Kathleen Phelps, Michael McCann and his wife Jodie, Jonathan McCann and his wife Courtney, Lynnsey Urgo and her husband Tyler and Gretchen Hicks and her husband Kyle. Also, three great grandchildren, Levi Urgo, Elizabeth Phelps and Elijah McCann; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to visit 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, with the Rev. Edward Merrill officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. following the interment.
