Obituary for Leon Jacon Lichtman

Lee Lichtman, 93, died Friday March 24, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, Maine, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 6, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Benjamin "Barney" Lichtman and Ella (Gross) Lichtman.

Lee graduated from City College in Manhattan as a Business Major with a degree in accounting after World War II. During the war he served in the U. S. Army in the 120th Evacuation Unit, which liberated the concentration camp at Buchenwald, Germany. He married Gertrude "Trudi" Adler and they settled in Brooklyn, NY. They celebrated 64 years of marriage June 1st. After retirement they moved to Concordia, a retirement development in Monroe Township, NJ, where they had an active social life. Always a talented artist, it was here that he became a prolific painter. His paintings grace the homes of friends and family. An avid reader, always reading 2 -3 books weekly. Trudi and Lee travelled the world together.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Herbert. Surviving in addition to his wife Trudi (Adler) Lichtman are his daughter Robin Beckett and her husband John of Orono, ME, and his grandson Gregg Beckett of Staten Island,NY.

A graveside funeral service will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, March 29th, at the Beth El Cemetery, Severence Road, Bangor, Maine, with Rabbi Darrah Lerner, presiding. The family will be sitting Shiva Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the home of Robin and John Beckett, 10 University Place, Orono, Maine, between 5:30 and 7:30 PM.
