Obituary for Joseph Uhrin

Joseph “Joey” Uhrin ,81, passed away peacefully November 22, 2018. He was born December 25, 1936 in Manhattan, NY, the son of John and Pauline (Friedman) Uhrin.
Joey graduated from Seward Park High School , class of 1954. That same year he entered the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1957. In 1960 he married Vitalia. He worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation from 1960-1980 as a Recycling Specialist, as Joey would say a “Garbologist”. After retiring in 1980, he and his wife moved to Maine. He worked at MSAD 59 as a bus driver/custodian and then at SD Warren Paper Mill for five years where he fully retired in 1991. Joey looked forward to fall when he would go “up ta hunting camp”. Thursday nights were “Guys Nights” at Aarons, in Winterport. He also loved going to Dunkin Donuts to get Tommy’s coffee.
In addition to his parents, Joey way predeceased by his wife of 46 years, “Vi” and daughter, Laurie.
He is survived by daughter, Lisa Uhrin, of Winterport; son, Michael Uhrin, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Joseph Uhrin and his wife, Courtney, of Boston, Eric and Rodney Murray; sister, Annie and Al Anguera, of New York; brother, Michael Uhrin and his wife, Tara, of New York, John Uhrin and his wife, Helen, of New York. As well as many special friends; Barbra Dimek, of Newburgh, Aaron Nason, of Winterport, Tommy and Missy McCann, of Winterport.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Missy McCann. She was the support and guidance needed during the most difficult time. Joey would refer to her as his “doctor”.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. Interment will be held in the spring in Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta, date and time to be announced.
