Obituary for Ethel Audrey (Bragg) Oakes

CLIFTON – Ethel A. Oakes, 62, died unexpectedly December 30, 2018, at home. She was born March 28, 1956, in Bangor, the daughter of William F. and Mina “Betty” (Lancaster) Bragg.

Ethel attended Brewer High School and later obtained her G.E.D. in 1984. She married Joseph E. Oakes they were married 20 years at his passing in 1999. Ethel was a big part of the Clifton community. She worked at the Clifton Country Store, and most recently the Town of Clifton recycling center, with her grandson, Joseph. She loved visiting with family, sharing coffee and words of wisdom, talking about the “good old days” and spending time with her and Jim’s dogs, Bear and Jax. Ethel will be reunited with her beloved dog, Maggie, at the Rainbow Bridge. Her girls were her world, and she adored her grandchildren. Ethel enjoyed crafting time with her granddaughter, Emma. We will miss you Nan, Love ya much!

Ethel was predeceased by her parents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Surviving are daughters, Jessica Oakes and partner, Stephanie, of Bangor; Billie Emery, and partner, Devon; two grandchildren, Joseph and Emma Emery of Clifton; devoted Partner, James Carr Jr. and his family; sister Rosemary, husband Scott; nephew Brad, niece Keri, and their families; and numerous friends thought of as family.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer.
