Obituary for Allen Frederick Bell

Glenburn – Allen F. Bell, Jr., 81, died after a brief illness July 10, 2017, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born February 18, 1936, in East Hampton, CT, the son of Allen F. and Zelta (Grover) Bell.

Allen grew up in East Hampton, CT, graduating from East Hampton High School, class of 1954. In January of 1955 he joined the United States Navy, embarking on a career that lasted over 20 years. Allen married Eleanor Morrell on November 8, 1958. They moved around a lot, being stationed both in the United States and overseas. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and recently joined the American Legion. Allen enjoyed fishing, but really loved golf. He was proud to be a member of the Scottish Clan. He enjoyed volunteering with Eastern Area Agency on Aging, driving cancer patients to their treatments at CancerCare; and with Furry Friends. Allen will be remembered as a loving and caring man who always thought of others more than himself. He always looked for ways to help others.

In addition to his parents, Allen was predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Bob Bell. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor; children, Andy Bell , Marty Bell and his wife Karen, Sherry Silvey and husband Mike, John Bell and Ryan Bell; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Sandy Krasnitski, and husband Donn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., immediately following the service.
