Obituary for Brent Rexford Slater Esq.

Brent Rexford Slater Esq., 71, passed away October 25, 2018, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born March 10, 1947 in Dexter, the son of George Rexford Slater and Janice (Dorr) Slater.

“I have warmed my face in the sunshine on a mountaintop in Switzerland, and have swum in the green waters of the Caribbean .
I have watched the sun rise over the pastel houses beside San Francisco Bay, and watched it set at Mallory Dock in Key West.
I have watched the whales breech in Penobscot Bay, and marveled at the playful dolphins.
I have enjoyed the love and companionship of so many, many friends and wonderful supportive family that most people never enjoy”
I have been blessed with the love of a woman that I never deserved, but who has been the source of indescribable happiness.
Don’t mourn for me, please. It’s been a magnificent trip; more than anyone has a right to expect. I guess I got lucky.
Thank you all for making it happen”

Brent started a law practice with James Austin in Dexter and then moved to Bangor to join the firm of Twitchell, Linscott, Badger, and Slater. At the time of his death, he was of counsel with Gross, Minsky & Mogul of Bangor. Brent was always entertaining his numerous friends with his stories and his jokes. He was an incredible writer and a talented guitarist and singer. Brent had an uncanny ability to quote literature from memory. His son says that he had more integrity than any man he ever knew.

Brent will be sadly missed by his wife of 32 years, Michele Adrienne Slater of Bangor; his son, Daniel Rexford Slater and wife Karen of Hollis, NH; his adored grandson, Adam Rexford Slater of Hollis, NH. He was also “Papa” to Anthony and Rocco Penning of Leominster, MA; and a cousin to Greg Sopkin of Vero Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his parents. Michele would like to thank Brent’s doctor, Gary Ross, for his attentive care and friendship during his lengthy illness.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 3-5 PM, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Please dress casually. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, 263 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
