Obituary for Lawrence "Larry" Clayton Jewett

BANGOR – Lawrence “Larry” Jewett, 78, died peacefully Sept. 25, 2018 at a local hospital. He was born July 19, 1940 in Ripley, the son of Clayton and Susan (Laughton) Jewett. Larry attended Hermon schools and was a graduate of Bangor High School. He was employed as a Safety Officer for the Maine DOT, retiring after 27 years of service. Larry was a proud member of the Maine Air National Guard, 101st Air Refueling Wing. He was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge #10, AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32  and Anah Shriners Second Section. Larry was an avid classic car enthusiast, enjoyed camping and his winters in Florida with his snowbird friends. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Judy (Graves) Jewett of Bangor; two sons, Michael Jewett of Glenburn and Jay Jewett of Bangor; a very special granddaughter, Heidi Rae Jewett of Colorado; four sisters, Glorilea Byers, Jackie Overlock and her husband, Clifford, Joanne Jewett, all of Hermon and Jeannie Jewett of Bangor; one brother, Laughton Jewett and his wife, Kathe of Hampden; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by a sister, Donalene Tapley and her husband, Colby and brother-in-law, Gene Byers. Judy would like to thank her family for all their love and support. A memorial service will be held 2pm, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist, presiding. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the officers and members of Rising Virtue Lodge followed by military honors. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the service Sunday.
