Obituary for Benjamin M. Isaacs

Benjamin M.  Isaacs
BANGOR - Benjamin M. Isaacs, age 80 of Bangor died peacefully on May 2, 2018 surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was a longtime resident of Bangor, born on June 6, 1937 in Norristown, Pennsylvania to Jeannette and Willard Isaacs.  Ben served in the US Air Force following high school and started a long time career at Sears in Bangor. For the past 9 years he worked at Husson University as their groundskeeper.

Ben was married to his beloved wife Nancy (Porter) for over 54 years.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. He enjoyed starting each morning with his “Chuckle of the Day”, which was reading his favorite funnies from the daily paper.  Ben loved gardening and any activity in the hot sun including trips to New Smyrna Beach, FL. He supported his grandchildren’s activities, encouraged team sportsmanship and character development.  He has been a role model through his strong work ethic and passion for his work. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge #83, AF & AM, of Bangor.

In addition to Nancy, he is survived by his 4 children, Ben Isaacs of Orlando Florida, Karen Strunk and her husband, Joel of Union, Maine, Kathy Poitras and her husband, Greg of Lee, New Hampshire, and Brian Isaacs and his wife, Jennifer of Bangor; his nine grandchildren, Kevin Rajkumar, Matthew and wife, Sabraya Isaacs, Mitchell Isaacs, Mollie and Carly Strunk, Lilli and Jack Poitras, Jordan and Emily Isaacs; his two great grandchildren, Gabriella Ghale and Cameron Isaacs. He is also survived by two brothers, Donald Isaacs and his wife, Joy of Lancaster, California and Willard Isaacs of San Diego, California and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Monday, May 7, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Arlene Tully, pastor, officiating, where he was an active member, and created a loving community and circle of friends.  Those who wish to remember Ben in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
