Obituary for Fred Samuel Norris

BANGOR & WINTERPORT – Fred Samuel Norris, 83, went home to be with the Lord April 28, 2018, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his wife and four children. He was born February 17, 1935, in Winterport, the son of Horace and Irene (Young) Norris. Fred graduated from Winterport High School. He enlisted in the Army Reserves during high school and later enlisted in the U.S. Army after the Korean War. Fred was a Waldo County Deputy Sheriff and a Game Warden. He also worked as a mechanic for Grant’s Dairy. Fred ended his working career with the Hampden/Winterport/Newburgh school department, where he worked for 30 years, watching his grandchildren and other children grow. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with wood. Fred especially enjoyed his morning coffee and scratch-off tickets. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Shirley Shappy. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary E. "Betty" Norris; sons, George L. Combs and wife Kathlyn O’Toole, Mark A. Combs and wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Robin J. Miller and husband, Edgar, Barbara D. Bilodeau; grandchildren, Trina Littlefield, Katie Cleaves, Travis Littlefield, Jennifer Miller, Edgar Miller IV, Danielle Miller, Michael Miller, John M. Adams, Michael J. Adams, Carly J. Neptune, Joseph R. Combs, Christopher O’Toole; twenty five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip Norris. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hampden –Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 435 South Main Street, Winterport with the Rite of Committal immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
