Obituary for Gloria L. Leonard (Cooper)

Gloria L. Leonard (Cooper)
HAMPDEN – Gloria L. Leonard, 79, went home to be with her Lord, November 18, 2017, at a Belfast hospital. She was born June 18, 1938, in Brewer, the daughter of William and Clara (Gallant) Cooper. Gloria married William Leonard Sr. in 1961. They raised four children of their own and many other nieces and nephews that she also considered her own. Gloria was a waitress in the Bangor area for many years. Her and her husband, Bill, owned and operated many food concession stands, traveling throughout Maine to various fairs for over 50 years. Later in life, Gloria worked as a courier for the Bangor Daily News, delivering papers in the Hampden, Winterport, and Monroe communities. She enjoyed “yard sale-ing”, where she would buy and collect antiques, and especially enjoyed collecting dolls. She truly enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Gloria spent endless hours - 7 days a week - with her friends at Dunkin Donuts in Bangor. Gloria’s wittiness, clever nicknames, and comical outbursts will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, William Leonard Sr.; grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley McCarthy; niece, Kathie Legassie; and nephew, Donnie Smith. Surviving are daughters, Gail McCarthy, Deborah Spaulding and husband, William, Patricia Newey and husband, Glen; a son, William Leonard Jr. and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Bobby, Mandi, Joseph, Kristi, Nikki, Kim, Jenelle, Heather, Samantha, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Harmony, Bryson, Kyle, Kody, Stephen, Hannah, Emily, Brooke, Bethany, Brianna, Tezri, Atticus, Nina, Makenzie, and Emelia; brother, William Henry Cooper Jr. and wife, Jackie; a special niece, Felesha McPhee; a special son-in-law, Barry McCarthy; and many other extended family members. She will also be missed by her furry friend, “Furlow” a.k.a. Willow.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7pm, Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Mandi Thibodeau’s house, 180 Coles Corner Road, Winterport, immediately following the funeral, Wednesday. Interment will be in Locus Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
