Obituary for Carlyle Butterfield Coutts

HOLDEN – Carlyle Butterfield “Carl” Coutts, 88, husband of Joyce (Cameron) Coutts, died November 14, 2017, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born February 23, 1929 in Auburn, the son of James C and Beryl B. (Butterfield) Coutts.

Carl graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Class of 1947, as a three-star athlete. Following graduation, he entered the beverage business with the Naraganseet Brewing Company, Cranston, RI. Before retiring in 1990, he was VP & General Manager of Pepsi-Cola / Haffenreffer Beverage Co. Inc. in Brewer. Carl was also a founding owner of the local Country Music Radio Station, Q106.5, in Brewer. He was a very active and loyal supporter of UMaine Athletics, along with supporting local hospitals, and local civic and charitable organizations. Carl was a member of the Tranquil Lodge #29 A.F. & A.M. of Auburn, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor, and Anah Temple of Bangor.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, James, Matthew, and Bucky; and a step-father, Levi Marston. Surviving in addition to one sister, Louann (Coutts) Burn of Auburn, are two sons, Stephen Coutts and wife, Chris of Holden, and David Coutts and wife, Barbara of Douglas, MA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Golden Acres Farm in the summer of 2018 at a date and time to be announced. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
