Obituary for Richard Philippon

WINTHROP, MA & BANGOR, ME – Richard Anthony “Tony” Philippon, 58, passed away November 4, 2017, at a Boston hospital, after a valiant and brave battle with heart disease. Tony was born February 26, 1959, in Bordeaux, France, the son of Joseph Philippon and the late Liliane (DeJardin) Philippon.

Tony was raised in Bangor was a proud graduate of Bangor High School. Tony was the co-captain of the football team, an excellent basketball player, and a friend to all. He attended the University of Maine, Orono, and obtained a paralegal certification from The Institute For Paralegal Training in Philadelphia, PA. Tony subsequently moved to Boston where he worked for a variety of law firms including the Law Office of Sherwin Kantrovitz. Most recently, Tony was an Uber driver where he received consistently excellent ratings. A warm, vibrant person with a huge heart and a piercing intellect, Tony loved golf, the New England Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings, politics, his family, and his large group of friends. Tony was a friend to everyone – the kindest, most gracious and non-judgmental person who ever lived.

Tony leaves behind his beloved fiancé, Gail Scibelli of Winthrop, MA; his father, Joe; brothers, Patrick and wife Meg, Daniel and wife Sarah; and a sister, Catherine Hope and husband Bernard. He also leaves behind his much-loved nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud of; Michael, Lucas, Hannah, Gracie, Ellery, and Abby.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2017, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a memorial service will be held 3 pm., Saturday, November 11, 2017. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately following the service Saturday. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. Those who wish to remember Tony in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Bangor High School Athletics, 885 Broadway, Bangor ME, 04401.
