Obituary for Paul Severance Colburn

Paul Colburn, 93, husband of the late Pauline (Gilpatrick) Colburn, died September 28, 2017 at his home. He was born in Bangor, May 27, 1924, son of Harry and Flora (Severance) Colburn.

Paul was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He had been a member of the VFW since the early 1950’s, eventually serving as multiple department chairs and as district and post commanders. Paul organized multiple tributes to the Veterans of Pearl Harbor and Remembering the Maine.

He worked for Bangor Furniture for 25 years, then Bangor Parks and Recreation for 20 plus years. Paul served the youth of this community through coaching at the Bangor YMCA and officiating baseball, softball, basketball and football. He also enjoyed candlepin bowling winning several state championships.

Paul was past president of the Penobscot County Conservation Club and past chairman of the Sportsman Show. He loved hunting and fishing at East Grand Lake with his buddies and the many tall tale fish stories.
Paul will be fondly remembered by his coffee group at McDonalds on Union St.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Colburn, and a very special sister-in-law, Barbara King.

Surviving are his daughter, Cindy Cowling and her husband, Gary, two sons, Allen Colburn and his wife, Debbie, Bruce Colburn and his fiancé, Alice all of Bangor; three grandchildren, John, Betsy and Shelby; four great grandchildren, John, Jordan, David and Seamus; a special brother-in-law, Joe King of Veazie; a special niece, Jane and special nephew, Steve. He will be remembered by many special close friends.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 am. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor with the Rev. Carl Schreiber, pastor of East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, after the service. Following the reception, graveside services with full military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie.
