Obituary for Rex Philbrick Sibley

Rex Philbrick Sibley, 92, husband of the late Nona May Sibley, passed away peacefully, September 20, 2017, at Phillips Strickland House. He was born in Old Town, July 29, 1925, son of Byran and Mamie (Philbrick) Sibley.
He graduated from Old Town High School and at the age of 17, joined the US Navy. After being discharged he went to the Refrigeration School in Portsmouth, NH under the GI bill.
Rex worked for 38 years at the University of Maine at Orono as a pressman at the University Press. He was a Boy Scout leader for the Orono Old Town Boy Scouts for three years. He played men’s softball for 15 years.
When he retired he and Nona spent many winters in Florida, summers in Maine and they enjoyed traveling across country. Rex enjoyed playing horseshoes, cribbage, bingo with the seniors and watching his beloved Red Sox.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann (Sibley) Nickles of Kingston, MA. and Heidi Sibley Newman and her husband, Rich of Walpole, MA.; step-children, Leon Perkins, Jr. of Yarmouth, Glen Perkins and his wife, Lisa of, Brownville, Tom Perkins and his wife, Stephanie of Orono, Susan Perkins of Glenburn; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held 2 pm. Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service.
