Obituary for Richard Ralph Curtis

WINTERPORT – Richard R. “Rick” Curtis Jr., 64, passed away September 18, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 1, 1953, in Bangor, the son of Richard R. and Charlotte L. (White) Curtis.

Rick attended schools in Hermon. He worked over 20 years as a shop foreman and service manager at Village Subaru. After working in the automotive industry, Rick changed direction and worked creating and fabricating Corian products. He finished his career working for Holden Cabinet and Millwork. Rick was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. Those who knew Rick will miss him for his sense of humor, his loyalty to his family, and his willingness to help anyone in need.

In addition to his parents, Rick was predeceased by a sister, Donna Higgins, and his mother-in-law, Theresa Ouellette. Surviving are his wife of 33 years and best friend, Lisa Curtis; daughters, Rachel Curtis and fiancé Ryan Morin of Winterport, Melanie Whitmore of Searsport; sons, Richard R. Curtis III of Hampden, John D. Curtis and wife Heather of Bangor; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Annie, Rhonda, Shirley, Penny, and Betty; brothers, Reggie and Ronnie, and all of their families; special father-in-law, Thomas Ouellette of Bradley, and Charles Yaichner and wife, Mia of Ohio; many friends, too numerous to mention; and Rick’s four-legged companions, Zena, Lucy, and Lydia.

Special thanks to Cancer Care of Maine, Dr. Sheila Pascual, and nurse, Theresa Mooney, who provided great care, comfort, and friendship to Rick during his journey.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held 3-5pm, Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where relatives and friends will be able to share in conversations and refreshments. Those who wish to remember Rick in a special way may make gifts in his memory to a foundation of one’s choice.

Enjoy life while you can. Life is short. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
