Hazel Madeline (Irving) Hopkins, 89, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept 12, 2017, in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard “Hoppy” Hopkins who died this past April. Hazel’s very strong spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Hazel made her way into the world on January 13, 1928, in Bangor, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Laura Mae Moore and Russell Irving of PEI, Canada. She was educated in the Bangor Maine and Winthrop Massachusetts school systems. After high school she was employed with C.H. Rice Company, Bangor, ME.

As a Military spouse she spent most of her life moving around the world with her husband and three children. Some of her favorite destinations were Japan, Germany, Italy, Texas, Iowa, New York, Maine and Massachusetts. Upon their retirement, she enjoyed spending time at their camp in Bucksport, ME. Hazel loved playing bingo, bowling, casinos, board games, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Her two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Heather Hopkins of Bangor, ME, and John and Holli Hopkins of Montana, her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Moore of Groveland, Ma, survive her. Her three brothers, Paul Turner of Winthrop, Thomas Turner of Peabody, and Allen Jamieson of ME, her sister, Janice George of Winthrop, Her siblings, Edward Turner, Edna Vailancourt, and Amy Hall predeceased her. Her beloved eight grandchildren, Ashleigh Behisy of Newton, NH, Daniel Moore of Watertown, Lindsey van Gennep of Raymond, NH, Sara and Kate Hopkins of Montana, and Jake, Nick, and Sophy Hopkins of Bangor, ME, also survive her. Her three great grandchildren, Aden, Lyla, Wyatt, many nieces and nephews, and her cherished dog Ozzy.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2017, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Mt.
