Obituary for Avis Ellen Parker

Avis Ellen  Parker
BANGOR – Avis Ellen Parker, 92, wife of the late Hollis C. Parker Sr., died peacefully August 30, 2017 at an Orono Healthcare Center. She was born September 22, 1924 in Stetson, daughter of Tyler H. and Emma (Fitts) Churchill.

Avis graduated from Bucksport High School. She worked in the Bangor School Department for 24 years and was employed in nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital, now EMMC off and on for many years. Avis was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor where she was a member of the Carolyn Piburn Circle, United Methodist Women. She loved knitting, sewing for her family and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles until her eyes failed her.

Surviving are three children, Samuel H. Parker and his wife, Gail, Mary Remmers and her husband, John, Vicki Mower and her husband, Glenn; grandchildren, Earl and his wife, Linda, Candace and her husband, Jamie, Kiley and his wife, Tonya, Kypp and his wife, Neda, Matthew and his wife, Sarah, Michael and his wife, Rebekah and Hans; great-grandchildren, Katie, Ashley, Jonathan, Emily, Sarah, Maranda, Amanda, Jonathan, Sophia, Levi, Ava and Noah; great-great grandson, Noah; two brothers, Richard A. Bowden and his wife, Ava and Norman L. Bowden and his wife, Pam; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Avis was predeceased by her stepfather, Luther Bowden, her husband, Hollis C. Parker, Sr., son, Hollis C. Parker, Jr., three grandchildren and special daughter-in law, Gretchen. The family appreciated the love and support shown Avis and family from the staff at Orono Commons.

A memorial service will be held 6pm, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex Street, Bangor with the Rev. Arlene Tully, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church Fellowship Room immediately following the service Tuesday. A graveside service will be held 10am Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. All are invited to meet at the Superintendent’s Lodge, State Street entrance 9:45am Wednesday. Those who wish to remember Avis in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor.
