Condolence From: Lee and Ron Davis
Condolence: Dear Terry,
Lee and I always looked forward to our contacts with Alan, his
upbeat demeanor and "can-do" attitude. We also enjoyed, and were impressed by his knowledge of Maine landscapes, and its natural history. We will miss him, and share your grief.

Condolence: Terri, my heart goes out to you. I have known Alan for nearly 40 years. He was on the committee that I hired me at The Nature Conservancy in 1983 and I continued to regard him as a highly valued partner in conservation to this day. He always greeted me with sincere friendliness and appreciation. I remember vividly Alan's excitement at the prospect of Jon's arrival in your family and the joy he showed in him over the years.
Having lost my husband of 47 years just 6 months ago I have some idea of the gaping hole this will seem to create in your life. I say seem, because I know that what you and Alan shared for so many years and your cherished family will help fill that void in the months to come. I wish you some measure of comfort and peace in Alan's memory and the love of your family in the coming hard hard days.

Condolence: Dear Hutchinson Family – It is with deepest sympathy that we extend to each of you our heartfelt thoughts and prayers at this very sad time in our lives. Nothing really prepares us for the sudden loss of a loved one. However, we each have our own special memories of Alan and know that these reflections, along with our faith, will provide comfort.
We will always remember Alan’s gentle and calming spirit, his quick smile, and his genuine interest in his immediate, as well as, extended family. His kind-hearted nature always made us feel welcomed and loved.
Alan’s presence will certainly be missed, but he will always be remembered with much love and admiration.

Condolence From: Ed Meadows
Condolence: Dear family and friends of Alan,
Here are some wonderful words from gazing at stars in a beautiful night sky:
“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through, and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”

The world was truly a better place because Alan was here.
He was an amazing leader: effective, friendly, enthusiastic, quiet, diplomatic.

Like no one else I ever knew, Alan ALWAYS had the best smile and most gracious greeting every time you saw him. He instantly made you feel better, just because you were with him. He was so sincere and so gracious.

I had the pleasure of serving on the TNC board with Alan in the early 1980s, and then seeing his accomplishments over the next 30 years. It is so engaging to know how many people appreciate so deeply what he accomplished.

Alan made an everlasting contribution to Maine, and Maine landowners. We remember him for his devotion to his beloved Maine woods, wildlife and natural resources.

He will be missed, that is for sure.

Ed Meadows, St. Simons Island, Georgia
former Commissioner, Maine Dept. of Conservation

Condolence: Terri, I was deeply sadden by the news of Alan's passing.
Although, I didn't know him well personally, I spent many an hour with Jan and Al, talking about their children.
To me, Alan was a gentle soul, but funny as he made me smile on many occasions.
May this beautiful man rest in the arms of the Lord.

Condolence: Terry, we were so sorry to hear about Al. You were both like our Orono family for years especially when our daughter, Kisch, went to UMaine. I've been close with Al ever since we pledged the same fraternity while we were at Orono. He lived and worked with me at the Red Roof Tavern in York when he first got out of the Army. You were a perfect host on my annual scallop diving trips with Al. He was a great friend and will always be remembered fondly and we will miss him.

Condolence From: Pascha
Condolence: Terri, I heard the news on the way home last night. My heart hurts deeply for you and everything and everyone Alan touched. Decades don't change my sentiment and gratitude for the love you and Alan provided for my tiny guy. Wonderful memories too of our time together and friendship. Seeing Alan a few months ago was a special treat; having Josh and Alan meet again warmed my heart. I introduced Alan to Josh as the kindest, most wonderful, and gentle man I've ever met. Alan of course graciously denied the compliment. Words can't express the deep feelings for you always, but especially now. If you ever want to reach out, I am here for you Terri. Much love, Pascha

Condolence: After not seeing Alan and Terry for decades, I caught up with them earlier this year. Alan was as kind and gentlemanly as I remembered. I am so, so sorry to learn of his untimely passing and my thoughts are with Terry and their family
