Obituary for Kay Ann Travis

Kay Ann  Travis
Newport – Kay Ann Travis, 76, died August 15, 2017 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born December 11, 1940, in Phillipsburg, NJ, the daughter of Glenn E. and Evelyn I. (Nothstine) Sweger.

Kay moved to Maine in 1969. She was active in Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. She belonged to the Tuscan Chapter #148, OES of Bangor and the Nokomis Chapter #42 of Newport. She also was a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary. Kay enjoyed reading and watching TV. Two of her favorite shows were Walker, Texas Ranger, and JAG. She loved listening to audio books when traveling. Kay will be remembered as a woman with a huge heart, who lived like she was still young, and was well-loved by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her father, Kay was predeceased by her step-father, Gerald Ritter; husband Edgar Pettit; husband, Clayton Henry Travis, her childhood sweetheart whom she met up with again later in life; sister, Rae Lee Sweger; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, and Kasey. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Glenn Sandt; daughters, Kimberly Lander and husband, Norman, Karen Dormida, Brenda Dathe and husband, Don; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; niece, Teri Veazie and nephew, Kevin Lippincott and their families.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where a funeral service with an Eastern Star ceremony will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19. Private interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Kay in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Kasey Lander Memorial Fund, 21 Lake Ave., Newport, ME 04953, or to House in the Woods, 217 Skunk Hill Road, Lee, ME, 04455.
