Laura Elizabeth (McClure) Buck, passed away peacefully Wednesday August 9, 2017 at her home in Stillwater Maine. The daughter of Cora Alice and Ralph McClure was born in Highland County, Ohio and raised on the family farm outside Berrysville, Ohio. After college she went on to teach music in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she met, and in 1948, married her husband Charles Buck. They subsequently moved to Maine where Charles took a faculty position at the University of Maine.
Both were involved in the community; Elizabeth always made time to bake for church and school events, and was known to join her sons in riding the toboggan down the hill in the winter. She was a self employed as a piano teach for a number of years and was also involved in the church choir and teaching Sunday-school. After moving to their home on Bennoch Rd, Elizabeth became increasingly involved in making jewelry from natural rocks from Maine and other locations. She and Charles became fixtures for many years at a number of rock shows in Maine each summer, selling jewelry, mineral specimens and rough-cut rocks, many of which were collected on trips out west to North Dakota, Montana, and Oregon. Later she served as summer curator for the Old Town museum, which was initially housed in an old pump house near the Penobscot River before it had a permanent home. She also worked with Charles to turn the McClure family farm in Ohio into a tree farm, which they both loved and where both she and Charles spent time each Spring and Fall until Charles’ death in 2012.
She will join her husband Charles in the Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Ohio. She is survived by her sons, Mark, Robert and Charles. Other surviving family members include her grandson David.
