Obituary for Robert Whiting Bowley

Robert Whiting  Bowley
Robert W. Bowley, 96, son of the late Clarence and Addy Mae (Lufkin) Bowley, slipped into eternal rest on July 8, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was the last surviving child of eleven in his family. He was born May 17, 1921, in Wilton, NH.

Bob was 8th of 11 children in his family. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and was on the invasion of Okinawa. He returned home to raise his family and work. Bob was a kind, gentle, and generous man who had a big smile for everyone he met. He was a stone mason and built thousands of stone fireplaces, brick chimneys, and foundations in the greater Bangor area and surrounding communities for over 50 years. Bob was a member of the Brewer VFW and the American Legion. He was predeceased by all of his siblings, and his wife of 32 years, Anna (Crowley) Bowley, who passed in 1994.

He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years who took wonderful care of him and made sure he had everything he needed, Rachael Fitzpatrick, of Orrington; children, Robert and his wife Ellen of Orrington, Teresa Goody and husband james of Orrington, Sandi Macomber and husband Jeff of Bradford, Joe of California, Kim Paradis and husband Craig of East Millinocket; fifteen grandchildren, Dawn, Mandy, Andrea, Arinn, Jeannie, Ruthanne, Alyssa, Patrick, Sarah, Derek, Bobbi-Jo, Trevor, Jeffrey, Owen, and Anna; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans Home and especially the staff on D-Unit for their kindness in caring for Bob, as well as Beacon Hospice for all their help.

A service of remembrance will be held graveside at 11AM, Thurs, July 13, at Marston Cemetery, Snows Corner Road, Orrington. Gifts in his memory may be made to Maine Veterans Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401; or to a charity of choice. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
