Obituary for Warren Edward Miller

Warren Edward  Miller
Holden – Warren E. “Whitey” Miller, 91, died of natural causes June 18, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. He was born December 9, 1925, in Elizabeth, NJ, the son of Conrad and Josephine Miller. Whitey served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Orono High School with a cadre of 12 veterans in 1947. He met Wilma Jesse Brown at the University of Maine and they were married on July 19, 1947. Whitey graduated from U. Maine in 1951 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Whitey and Willie lived in Stockton Springs, Newcastle, DE, and Waterville, before moving to Orono and raising their six children there and on Holbrook Pond in Holden. Whitey retired from Owens Illinois where he was plant engineer for 19 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, and spending time with friends and family at camp. He spent many treasured days at his little piece of paradise, Union River Orchard in Aurora, and at Camp Picaroon on Duck Lake. Whitey and Willie have many happy memories of time spent enjoying the Maine outdoors with their life-long friends, the Nichols, Calkins, Garvins, Bartleys, Spaldings, and Whites.

In addition to his parents, Whitey was predeceased by two brothers, Al and Charlie, a daughter, Donna Miller Cavallo, and a grandson, Matthew Burnes. He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Brown) Miller; daughter, Irene Staples, and her husband, Dennis, of Orrington; son, Fred Miller, and his wife, Nancy, of Gray; daughter, Laurie Miller, of Holden; daughter, Andi Phelan, and her husband, Peter, of Dedham; son, Eddie Miller, and his wife, Anne, of Pittsfield; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are welcome to share in a time of remembrance on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Those who wish to remember Whitey in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME, 04401.
